So you always complain about how tight your shoes is and you need a new pair huh, well, check this out. Here’s something to keep you quiet. This Chinese woman’s foot is capable of wearing shoe almost the size of a cigarettes box. It is one of the olden Chinese tradition that wearing shoes as small as possible makes you look as beautiful as possible. I certainly hope that it is not implemented in this technology age.

    Yes, that’s called foot binding.

Supposedly it is now illegal to do that because basically you are crippling the woman.

Ya… What people will do for fashion, or to their kids, is disturbing. although we all (almost all) have deformed feet from wearing shoes. there actually is supposed to be a wide space between each toe. But because we are put in shoes at such a young age, it forces them to grow closer together. Crappy, but a lot less painful than feet being Broken then wrapped in cloth to force them to grow curled up.

As far as I am aware this sort of thing is not practiced today. I remember, it was mentioned in the excellent book ‘The Three Swans’ This book relates the lives of 3 generations of women in the same family. i remember a section describing the pain felt as a girl was growing up and had to have her feet bound day and night – an horrific thought!!!

And for what reason, so as they appeared more attractive to men and also to restrict their ability to run away — can you believe it!!! Hopefully China is slowly moving away from this sort of activity

its nott fashion people! i mean jeez know what your saying before you say it. sure it was said to be “beautiful” but it wasnt a fashion thing mostly, girls were forced to have their feet broken and wrapped because it was said to be important TRADITION. most had NO SAY in the matter.
